Schedule C is used to report trade or business income. If you are only acting on behalf of your mother and are not in the business of providing advocate services to others, then you don't have to complete Schedule C; you don't have net earnings from self-employment upon which to figure self-employment tax. However, the payment from your mother to you is probably taxable income and not a tax-free gift because you are expected to perform personal services. List the payment as "other income" on page 1 of Form 1040 with a notation of what the income is for.
