Does my ex-wife need to sign off on the home loan interest so that I can claim the interest as a deduction?
I was divorced in September. I retain co-ownership of the house we purchased together. Am I required to have my ex-wife sign off on the home loan interest to be able to claim it as an itemized deduction, or can I merely deduct it as I am making the house payment?

When a mortgaged property is jointly owned, a joint owner who pays the entire interest charge, like you, may deduct the entire amount of the payment. I would caution anyone who is in this situation to be prepared to substantiate the deduction and be able to demonstrate that you exclusively paid the entire amount.
