I’m on a filing extension for my 2008 return. I’ve purchased J.K. Lasser’s Your Income Tax and tax preparation software. Can I deduct these costs?

These costs are deductible on the tax return for the year in which you’ve paid for them. Tax preparation books and software purchased in 2009 for the 2008 return are deductible on the 2009 return. The deduction is claimed as a miscellaneous itemized deduction, subject to the limitations described in the previous answer.
