My mother has been living with me. Do I have any tax relief for this?
My mother has been living with me. She is disabled and only receives Social Security benefits of $773 a month, $500 of which goes to her medication. She is breaking my bank. Do I have any tax relief for this?

Yes, you do. First, it sounds like you will be able to claim her as a dependent, which will allow you to take a deduction on your tax return. Next, if you are single, you are likely to be able to file as a head of household, which will open up all sorts of favorable tax opportunities. Finally, if you pay her medical expenses and have her keep her money or help you with other costs around the house, you will be able to deduct those costs — subject to some limitations.
