Use up your flexible spending account (FSA) contributions

If you put salary into your employer's FSA for medical or dependent care, spend whatever is left in the account before it's too late (check with human resources to learn the closing date for last year's FSA). Anything left in the account after this date is forfeited. Best strategy: Make discretionary purchases that qualify for reimbursement under the FSA, such as stocking up on over-the-counter medications for a health FSA.
