Tax Deadline Extended, Again, for Certain Disaster Victims

The IRS has announced that disaster-area taxpayers in most of California and parts of Georgia and Alabama now have until October 16, 2023, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments (IR-2023-33). Earlier this year, the IRS had postponed the deadline to May 15.

Deductions

Items directly reducing income. Personal deductions such as for mortgage interest, state and local taxes, and charitable contributions are allowed only if deductions are itemized on Schedule A, but deductions such as for alimony, capital losses, moving expenses to a new job location, business losses, student loan interest, and IRA and Keogh deductions are deducted from gross income even if itemized deductions are not claimed.
